My aim is to identify and detect novel spatial structures in physics and
mathematics.
Therefore, I develop statistical and mathematical analysis tools to
learn what geometry can tells us about the physical properties.
Thus, my research combines surprising physical phenomena with rigorous
mathematics and statistics.

**Examples of my research**

**Disordered hyperuniformity:**Hyperuniform patterns are isotropic and disordered (like a liquid) but have no long-range density fluctuations (like a crystal).

**[**Nat. Commun. 2019 — Random Struc. Algorithms 2020 — Phys. Rev. X 2020**]****Phoamtonics:**We showed that it is possible to construct foam-based heterostructures with complete photonic band gaps that prohibit the propagation of electromagnetic waves in all directions.

**[**PNAS 2019**]****Photonic networks:**When we optimized photonic band gaps of networks, we discovered a subtle, unanticipated universal behavior of both crystal and disordered networks.

**[**Phys. Rev. Lett. 2021**]****Morphometric data analysis:**Our null hypothesis test detects structural deviations from background noise using Minkowski functionals. The additional shape information can dramatically increase the sensitivity of the test.

**[**Astron. Astrophys. 2013 — Electron. J. Stat. 2018 — EPL 2019**]****Shape analysis of nano-rough surfaces:**An integral geometric data analysis can quantitatively predict how the experimentally measured bacterial adhesion forces change with an increasing nanoroughness of surfaces designed for medical implants.
